Map of Ethiopia, Tigray
Ashenda is one of Ethiopia's intangible heritages. Every year, because it is a tradition of all the young girls together around singing and beating drums.
Tigray is found in the northen part of Ethiopia. Its western part rises in high-plateau country where elevations generally range between 5,000 and 11,000 feet (1,500 and 3,300 metres). The region is drained by the Tekeze and Gash (Mareb) rivers. To the east lies the Denakil Plain, including the Kobar Sink (some 380 feet (116 metres) below sea level). Many people think of Christianity in Africa as a European import that arrived with colonialism, but this is not the case with the Tigray. The empire centered in Axum and Adwa was part of the Mediterranean world in which Christianity grew. The arrival of Christianity in Tigrayan lands happened about the same time that it arrived in Ireland. The Tigrayans, in fact, had been converted to Christianity hundreds of years before most of Europe. Many churches in Tigray were built in the mountains , where Christianity had existed from its earliest years. The church is a central feature of communities and of each family's daily life.

Dallol means dissolution or disintegration, describing a landscape of green acid ponds (PH-values less than 1) and iron oxide, sulfur and salt desert plains. The area resembles the hot springs areas of Yellowstone Park. Dallol is a cinder cone volcano in the Danakil Depression, Northeast of the Erta Ale range in Ethiopia. It has been formed by the intrusion of basaltic magma into Miocene salt deposits and subsequent hydrothermal activity.
